museum shops as fashion shops

i have found the most amazingly unique jewelry finds at modern museum shops around the country, including this one, purchased from the seattle art mueum, which i wore during our acl taping. it is by a south american artist, vacide erda zimic, and is made of FELT! on a side note: i can’t tell you how obsessed i have become with this material: felt jewlery, ottomans, chairs, coasters…so much is coming out in the design realm employing it. such a fun fabric!

i took a lovely summer walk with ashley down fifth avenue in park slope today. we visited a few vintage shops, including one where i found this amazing, AMAZING number! it’s sheer and velvet, fits perfectly, cost under $20 and reminded me immediately of the stella mccartney peplum dress. (pictured above: liv tyler donning stella mccartney’s peplum on may fifth of this year for mccartney’s manhatten store opening, and me modeling my find).

new york, new york

visiting new york, new york for the next nine days, where i will be playing a show on governor’s island, staying with the lovely ashley redding in brooklyn and wandering wherever my heart may decide to lead. diane will be joining me for a few days too! girl time in the big apple! can’t wait.

i am off to dobe, wa for five days! i’m bringing diane, my sister, and my friend, sebastian. this will mean ferry rides, bbq’s, friends, the outdoors, impromtu music playing all day everyday, swimming, camping and being merry!! see you later, internet!

aug sixth i stumbled upon this turquoise glass necklace in a wicker park vintage shop, on our day off in chicago. i have few necklaces this length and it is such a unique design. i bought it to wear with a black and beige lace blouse i purchasd earlier. i imagined it would be the perfect color splash to my all black silhouette, especially with the lace texture and paired with pop of bright orange/red lips. the vendor then proceeded to tell me that it was an art deco piece. sold! i started imagining myself living in the 1930s, gracefully donning one of those beautifully feminine bias-cut silk gowns. (it also made me think of my jewish grandfather, who was a jewler in chicago, living and working at that time). i chose some designs from magazines of the thirties. note: i love pairing turquoise hues with peach/orange/red ones.
